Great Meadow Twilight Polo Opening Night - May 14, 2016

1:15:00 PM

Polo season is heating up here in the Washington, DC area, and Great Meadow kicked off it's Twilight Polo season with their Opening Night on May 14, 2016.

From May until October, Great Meadow hosts Twilight Polo every Saturday, featuring 3 polo matches, costume themes, tailgate parties, food, and wine tastings provided by Greenhill Winery.  At the end of the night there is a DJ and dancing, and after the awards are given out to the winning teams, all the children are encouraged to go into the area, practice their polo playing skills with balls and mallets, and test their strength in a beloved girls vs. boys tug-of-war game.

Opening night was Military Appreciation night and featured two matches pitted Army vs. Navy and Air Force vs. Army.   But before that, the first game, played at 6:00, was an amateur game between the Greenhill Winery team and the team from the Great Meadow Polo Club.

After that military teams were introduced into the area and the next round of games began.

There was a special presentation by the Army Caisson Platoon.

If you've never been to a polo game before at Great Meadow, I highly encourage you to pack a picnic dinner and attend this family-friendly event some Saturday!  Tickets can be purchased ahead of time for $35 or at the gate for $40.
